Configuring ZeroTier on MikroTik
Follow these steps to set up ZeroTier on your MikroTik router:
Step 1: Download and Install the ZeroTier Package
- Ensure your router is running RouterOS version 7 and is an ARM-based device. ZeroTier is only supported on ARM architecture and requires RouterOS 7 or later.
- Visit the MikroTik website and navigate to the Downloads section.
- Download the ZeroTier package that matches your router’s architecture and the same version as your RouterOS.
- Extract the downloaded file.
- Open the MikroTik router’s web interface.
- Navigate to System > Packages.
- Upload and install the extracted ZeroTier package.
Step 2: Install ZeroTier on a Client PC
- Visit the ZeroTier website.
- Download and install the ZeroTier client for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- Once installed, log in to the client using your ZeroTier account credentials.
- Join the same ZeroTier network by entering the network ID created in Step 3.
Step 3: Create a ZeroTier Network
- Sign up for a free account on the ZeroTier website.
- Log in to the ZeroTier portal.
- Click on the Networks button in the top menu.
- Select Create a Network and follow the prompts.
- Copy the generated network ID for use in the next step.
Step 4: Join the MikroTik Router to the ZeroTier Network
- Go back to the MikroTik router’s web interface.
- Navigate to IP > ZeroTier.
- Enter the network ID in the Join Network field.
- Click the Join button.
Step 5: Configure Firewall Rules
- Navigate to IP > Firewall.
- Set up rules to allow or block traffic between devices on the ZeroTier network based on your requirements.
Step 6: Test the ZeroTier VPN Connection
- Connect a device to the ZeroTier network.
- Verify that the device can access the resources on the MikroTik router.
